What is wrong with them?

At least 3 times a week I get an IM or email from a man that I don't know who has seen my blog or a picture of me elsewhere and wants to start up a chat or more... usually they want to exchange phone numbers without sending me a picture of themselves in return. When I explain that I never exchange personal information with a person that I can not confirm as an actual human being, I always meet with opposition.

WHY?

Do they see the internet as a cafeteria of women from whom they can select. A human auto-mat that they can select from at will?

Maybe, I have selection requirements as well. Maybe they are really simple ones, like:

Don't tell me I am hot. At best you will appear insincere given the fact that there are about jillion hot young things online and I am a 40 year old, flabby, saggy mother of two. At worst, you will appear to think that I am either desperate or an idiot. Trust me, I know that I often complain that I am lonely on this site. That doesn't mean that I don't think I could have companionship if I really wanted it. I know that I can. But I am unwilling to chat with just anyone, let alone fuck them.

Don't tell me that you don't have picture of yourself online. Everyone with a cellphone these days has the ability to get a digital picture of themselves. That means pretty much all of the population over the age of 12. And if you are married and have kids? Please! It is almost a law that you will have a camera. It sounds like a lie when you tell me that you don't... and chances are it is.

Don't tell me that you can't risk having your picture posted on the internet. There are a bunch of reasons for this one.. a. You are suggesting that I am running some sort of porn site... Hey buddy... you contacted me! I never post pictures of the of other people and frankly that is a risk that I have taken too. b. You are suggesting that you have more to lose through an online chat with me - you don't and suggesting otherwise seems egotistical. c. If your life is really that complicated, I don't want to be sucked into it. So keep your mobster in-laws or burgeoning political career to yourself.

Don't give me a written description of yourself with the caveat that I won't be disappointed. Maybe... maybe not. You got look me over and think about whether to send me a message. Please give me the same courtesy.

The fact of the matter is that I am very reasonable. I might chat with you for a moment if I am bored, but I am not going to want a further conversation and I have no intention of EVER meeting you. No matter how innocent the intention. That is E-V-E-R. I ask for very little, if you won't comply with it you make me very nervous.
